Alliance for the Future (AFTF) applauds President Donald J. Trump for his national AI framework announced today. It is a serious effort to protect the public from real harms, not speculative or imaginary ones, while still preserving the conditions that allow American innovation in AI to thrive. We are especially encouraged that the framework provides a positive, forward-looking vision for AI policy, and one that continues to move the conversation away from those who fear the future, and toward practical, pro-innovation policies that support builders, creators, and the public.

The Most Pro-Human Position on Artificial Intelligence

In recent months, a number of organizations skeptical of rapid artificial intelligence deployment have begun describing themselves as pro-human. The label is not accidental. It reflects a genuine concern that powerful technologies could erode dignity, displace workers, or weaken human agency. Those concerns deserve to be taken seriously. Questions about how technology shapes culture, work, and self-understanding are not fringe anxieties. They are civilizational ones. But the phrase pro-human invites a deeper examination.

Why We Signed the Coalition Letter on Federal AI Preemption

Alliance for the Future recently joined a coalition of organizations calling on Congress to consider a targeted, temporary federal preemption approach for certain state level artificial intelligence laws. The effort was spearheaded by Americans for Prosperity and reflects a shared concern that the current trajectory of AI regulation risks becoming fragmented before a coherent national framework is established. The pace of state legislative activity on AI has accelerated rapidly. While this reflects legitimate interest in responding to new technologies, it has also created the conditions for overlapping and sometimes conflicting rules governing systems that inherently operate across state lines.

Congress Should Set One AI Standard Before It Is Too Late

Unfortunately, thousands of state bills regulating artificial intelligence (AI), often contradictory and even impossible to comply with, have been proposed across the country in the last eighteen months. Many have even been enacted. Congress has an immediate opportunity to make sure that the United States can continue its global leadership in AI by passing legislation establishing a national framework to prevent a patchwork of AI laws in the states that will harm our ability to lead on AI.

A Win for Innovation: New Federal Policy Rewards Regulatory Clarity

This week, the White House rolled out a meaningful step toward addressing one of the biggest threats to America’s AI leadership: regulatory fragmentation. In its newly released America’s AI Action Plan, the administration included a key directive instructing federal agencies to consider a state’s AI regulatory climate when awarding discretionary funding. Specifically, it states: “Led by OMB, work with Federal agencies that have AI-related discretionary funding programs to ensure, consistent with applicable law, that they consider a state’s AI regulatory climate when making funding decisions and limit funding if the state’s AI regulatory regimes may hinder the effectiveness of that funding or award.
